Private J. Clarke

 

The background of this man is not known at present.

J. Clarke enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Newtownards on 9 April 1918 (Corps of Hussars No.72059). He was described as being 5' 8ΒΌ" tall, with a fresh complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. He stated that he was 23 years old, was born in Ballymacarrett, Belfast, and worked as a labourer.

He was reported to have deserted from the regiment's reserve base at Antrim on 19 April 1918, just ten days after his enlistment. It is not known if he was subsequentially apprehended.
